Post-Secondary Education

If you are considering pursuing your post-secondary education in Canada, there are many decisions you need to make. Before deciding on your educational institution, it is a good idea to check whether they are “recognized”, which means that a provincial or territorial government has given them authority to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates, or other qualifications. You can visit the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials website at www.cicic.ca for a complete list of universities and colleges.

At most post-secondary institutions, there are two main terms of study per year: September to December and January to April. From May to August, many students take a break from studying but courses are still offered during the summer months for those who wish to continue their studies.

In almost all cases, you will have to pay tuition fees to receive post-secondary education in Canada. You can expect to pay up to several thousand dollars for each four-month term. In addition to tuition fees, students are responsible for buying course materials such as textbooks and supplies. However, there are financial assistance programs such as student loans, grants, scholarships, and bursaries to help students with their tuition fees.
